Our History

Founded in April 2019, Ubuntu Care is a private company situated in Portland, Maine. Our primary focus is on supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities to lead fulfilling lives within their communities. With a dedicated team of skilled and certified professionals, we offer a range of direct support services aimed at enhancing the quality of life for those in our care. Ubuntu Care aspires to become one of the leading social service agencies in Maine, driven by our commitment to empowering individuals and fostering inclusivity. Our journey is defined by a deep-rooted passion for making a positive impact and creating a more supportive and compassionate environment for all members of our community.

In an effort to serve each individual in the neighborhood he either comes from or would like to live in, we are currently serving individuals with Intellectual Disabilities in Androscoggin, Cumberland and York Counties.

Frequently Asked Questions

To start the intake process, a call with the clinical department is taken to discuss the needs of the individual. Then, the individual will view the home to see if they like it and meet their potential roommate. Next, Ubuntu Care will hold a team meeting with the individual, guardian and case manager to discuss anything else. Lastly, the individual will decide if they want to move to our services.

Houses in Ubuntu Care will serve two individuals

Ubuntu Care facilities have personnel who hold the CRMA certificate (Certified Residential Medication Aide), which is a state-authorized certification that authorizes them to administer medications to people getting home and community-based services.
